Pam Shelley of Kaludah Hereford stud, Cooma, has been exhibiting at Wodonga for 31 years.
The largest exhibitor at the show and sale this year, Ms Shelley deservingly took home the most successful exhibitor, and although an exact figure hasn’t been confirmed, it has been well over 20 times.
Hauling down 18 bulls from her property “Rock Flat”, in the NSW Monaro region, Ms Shelley returned home with a swag full of ribbons as well as a robust sale average.
“It is quite something to prepare that many bulls,” Ms Shelley said.
“But you just get in and do it.”
Ms Shelley prides herself on the fact that her team at Wodonga held some of the highest eye muscle area (EMA) measurements as well as heaviest body weights.
“The Herefords are renowned for their excellent weight for age trait over the other breeds,” Ms Shelley said.
“I have been working on increasing our EMA’s for many years, and I am satisfied with the result I have achieved.
“The sire Rambo has breed amazingly for me and his three sons were outstanding at Wodonga.”
Rambo’s sons were awarded first and second places in the junior bulls section and second in class in the intermediate bull section.
In the senior section, Kaludah Jolly L267, by Kaludah Bradman H608, came first in his class and was a contender for the senior champion title.
His weight was 1156 kilograms with an EMA of 145 square centimetres.
Many other placings were won by Kaludah which accumulated to the most successful exhibitor award.
At the close of the sale Kaludah had sold 17 of the 18 bulls offered by her stud, by nightfall the 18th bull had also been sold.
Kaludah averaged just over $10,50 for the 18 bulls sold topping at $16,000 twice.
“I am satisfied because a lot of commercial producers bought my bulls and that is what is incredibly important,” Ms Shelley said.
