NSW Nats delegates back Banking Royal Commission

Women's Council motion for banking royal commission gets up at Broken Hill

THE NSW Nationals conference at Broken Hill has backed a Royal Commission into banking.

The conference voted in favour of the Women’s Council to support a royal commission into white collar crime that encompasses:

1. The banking system in Australia

2. The tie between industry super funds and the union movement

3. Ponzi schemes

4. Phoenixing

A royal commission into banks has been the subject of much debate federally, with Opposition leader Bill Shorten often critical of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and often suggesting a reluctance by the Coalition to commit to one.

Today in the State’s Far West Nationals Senator John ‘Wacka’ Williams backed the motion, saying "people don't rob others with a knife or a pistol, these days they rob others with a pen and a pencil".

He gave a tongue-in-cheek comment that “they should perhaps add the ATO into all of this".
