Do you have a Merino passion?
THE modern Merino is vastly different to those that arrived 200 years ago. It’s only been through the passion of Merino breeders that the NSW Merino industry continues to evolve and as a result Landmark want to foster this with the introduction of a new award.
The first Landmark NSW Young Merino scholarship is an exciting opportunity for any person aged between 18 and 28, currently studying at university or TAFE and living in the Central Tablelands, Central West, Hunter, North West, Northern Tablelands and Western Local Land Service regions to bid for the $2000 scholarship.
Landmark stud stock agent Brad Wilson said this award will recognise the best, most passionate and committed young people.
“Applications are invited from students studying genetics, marketing, fashion, breeding, chefs, nutritionists, business, communications and any other course,” Mr Wilson said.
“I’m sure there are ways in which this great breed and the products can be used which haven’t even reached our radars yet.”
“We hope this scholarship will encourage students who may not necessarily see themselves in agriculture at present. Perhaps the winner will be a film-maker or song-writer.”
He said the winner will have a desire to develop skills and experience in the agricultural industry to expand their current base of knowledge and consequently, applications to consumers.
“Tell us in about 200 words why you think the Merino industry is important to NSW and to you, what your ambitions are and how winning this award will help you achieve them,” he said. “The $2000 prize money can assist with the costs of studying and the networks which will be opened to the winner will be invaluable.”
If chosen as a finalist, the candidate must attend an interview and the Merino National held in Dubbo on August 22. Entries close August 4.
