The Crowley family at Tycolah Poll Herefords, Barraba, celebrated their 16th annual on property bull sale with a $30,000 high last Friday.
Held in conjunction with Kyan Poll Herefords, Neil, Kerry and Luke Smith, Narrabri, and The Cottage, Bill and Judy Crowley, Cobbadah, the sale averaged $8080 overall for 50 Poll Hereford bulls and averaged $4700 for five stud yearling heifers.
In the breakdown, Tycolah sold 38 from 41 to top at $30,000 and average $8526; Kyan sold all seven bulls to top at $11,000 and average $6715; and The Cottage cleared five of their six bulls offered to top at $11,000 and average $6600.
Alvio Trovatello, Glendan Park Herefords, Kyneton, Victoria secured the $30,000 Tycolah Overdrive L84 as an outcross for his stud operation.
The Wararba Park First Class F230 son weighed 1040 kg, had 10mm on the rib, 15mm on the rump, EMA of 136 sqcm and 6.5% for IMF.
The 24-month old bull was named Supreme Champion Hereford Exhibit at the Hereford feature show in Glen Innes this year and had the growth and outlook Mr Tovatello was looking for.
“This bull will go home and straight away be used as a backup bull in our latest AI program” explained Mr Trovatello
“I believe this bull will improve growth and length in the moderate frame cows within my herd”
Two Tycolah bulls hit $24,000 with Tycolah Olympic L33, selling to Ben Rumble, Supple Herefords, Guyra and Tycolah Opal L96 selling to Bendulla Poll Herefords, Bordertown, South Australia.
L33 a Tycolah Linwood son was selected on skin and hair, weight for age and good bone and structure.
“A real complete animal, that will go well over our Flemington and Ivy Bank females” said Mr Rumble as he described the 1126 kg bull that measured an EMA 140 sqcm and an IMF of 7%.
Landmark’s John Settree advised Ross Bennett, Bendulla Poll Herefords on the purchase of L96, a bull Mr Settree described as boasting “natural thickness and sire appeal”.
The 966 kg Wararba Park First Class F230 son, which measured an EMA of 131 sqcm and an IMF of 6.6%, will be used in the stud’s program to breed bulls for pastoral stations.
Kyan Lamb Chop, a Warragundi Hemingway son sold to Hamilton family, Kingstown for $11,000 and Valma Frontline son The Cottage Wanderer L23 sold to Wallan Creek Herefords, Drillham for $11,000.
There was strong stud and commercial activity throughout the entire sale with Tycolah principal, Steve Crowley pleased with the caliber of the herds the bulls went into.
The sale was settled by Landmark and Hart Rural Agencies with Paul Dooley, Tamworth as auctioneer.
