A large crowd of keen buyers made the trip to the Towalba Merino Stud, Peak Hill, last Friday for their annual on property ram sale.
A total of 150 Merino and Poll Merino rams were offered by stud principals Garry and Warick Kopp, with a further 20 lots of Prime SAMM rams available.
250 Merino grade rams were also available after the auction.
The Kopps enjoyed a clearance rate for their Merino and Poll Merino rams of 99.3pc, with just one lot passed in.
The Merino rams sold averaged at $2513, topping at $12,000.
The Poll Merinos sale portion averaged at $2559, to a top of $4000.
The 20 lots of Prime SAMMs averaged at $1550, with a top of $2000. The sale total for the day was $407,750.
The top priced ram on the day went to Ian Shaw, “Whitefields,” Galong who paid $12,000 for Towalba Black 29358.
Mr Shaw also purchased the second top priced bull, paying $8000 for the Yellow Maiden 29350.
Mr Shaw purchased a total of three lots on the day.
Elders Stud Stock, Dubbo, auctioneer Paul Jameson, said the style of ram offered suited buyers needs on the day.
“It was a very strong result. More rams were offered today than have been in previous years.”
“The way the wool and meat markets are situated currently is very conducive to the good results we have seen.”
“Towalba are renowned for producing big body, heavy cutting sheep, and people were obviously impressed today,” he said.
37 seperate buyers made purchases on the day, with the majority purchasing multiple rams.
JF & GP Ridley, “Miner Lea”, Girral, purchased a total of 17 rams throughout the sale. DH & HJ Russ, “Pigeanbah”, Warren, also bought 14 rams, five other buyers purchased seven or more rams during the sale.
The sale was conducted by Elders Stud Stock, Dubbo.
