The prospect of rain in coming days resulted in a good crowd of buyers and cattle producers at the Forbes store cattle sale last Friday.
The yarding of 800 head comprised cows with calves, PTIC females and weaner steers and heifers.
Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon and Company director Luke Whitty, Forbes, said cows and calves sold from $1200 to $1640, while PTIC cows made from $900 to $1260.
Mr Whitty said it was a good strong sale and a good result for the vendors.
“The market was a little dearer with the forecast of rain, it did really put a spring into the sale”, he said
Weaner steers fetched between $550 to $950, while their heifer counterparts ranged from $400 to $700.
Buyers attended from local areas and Albury, Lake Cargelligo, Young and Orange.
A large draft of cattle was offered by Budda Station Pastoral Company, Tilpa, with the top pen of their Droughtmaster/Santa Gertrudis/Charolais PTIC cows hitting $1260 when purchased for a Lake Cargelligo buyer.
Budda’s cows and calves sold to a top of $1340.
A pen of seven Hereford cows with their first calves at foot by Angus bulls account Nangar Valley, Murga, sold for top cow/calf unit money of $1640 to a local producer.
Angus yearling steers from John Woods, “Manna Park”, Forbes, made $1070 to local restocker, while their sisters sold for $820.
The sale was conducted by Forbes Associated Agents.
