The 4th annual offering of Border Leicester rams bred by Jamie and Tracey Buerckner, Bauer stud, Ariah Park saw a lift in values on last year.
Returning clients were very active when fifty nine rams were penned, with one hundred per cent clearance to top $2,650 and sale average of $1,069 up from last year’s result by $287.
Mr Buerckner said the sale exceeded his expectations, especially as the average price for the entire offering was significantly up on the previous sale with more rams penned.
“I am very happy with the result and pleased we were able to present a good selection of rams for reasonable prices,” he said.
“The top ranked ram by Stockscan in our offering sold for the top price, and the interest in our sheep confirms our genetic decisions.”
The top priced ram, a 14-month-old twin sired by 58/12 ‘Crackerjack’ with an eye muscle area of 33.2 sq mm weighed 111 kilograms when purchased by repeat buyer Mitch Lyons, Molong.
Crackerjack is the leading muscle sire at the Bauer stud, and had been supreme Border Leicester exhibit at the Melbourne Royal in 2013 after being judged junior champion at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo in 2013.
The top priced ram was included in Mr Lyons draft of four rams which averaged $1837.50.
Other good sales included two at $1,750 each bought by Phil Halden, Barellan: one at $1,700 purchased by Ray Webb, Yerong Creek and one at $1,650 bought through Hargrave Rural Traders and taken a new home to Lake Cargelligo.
