Simmental champions
Bull: Clitheroe, Cobram, Victoria.
Female and supreme: Heart and Spade Simmentals, Londonderry. Res: Webb Black Simmentals, Glenburn, Vic.
JESSICA Adams, Heart & Spade Simmentals, Londonderry, has won supreme Simmental with four year-old Savannah Fancy (P) (ET), who had her second calf – a heifer – at-foot.
Ms Adams said it was the biggest prize the impressive cow, who she had bought as a junior heifer from Savannah Simmentals, has won.
Bred by VCP Cattle Services, South Australia, the quality female was sired by Lancaster E-Type E074 from Langton-Gate Unigate.
Shown with 5-month old calf, Heart & Spade Naughty at side, Fancy wowed the judge claiming the top spot in the show ring.
Judge Bruce Holmquist, who is the Canadian Simmental Association general manager, said there was a very impressive line-up of females among the 41 entries from 13 studs.
Mr Holmquist said he was looking for cattle that were complementary to other breeds and convenient to the whole beef industry.
For supreme, Fancy beat the grand champion bull, Clitheroe Magnus, bred and exhibited by Heather du Vallon, Clitheroe stud, Cobram, Victoria.
By Mt Ararat Harley from Clitheroe Joanne, this bull was the junior and automatically the grand champion as there we no senior Simmental bulls exhibited.
Ms du Vallon also had reserve junior champion bull with Clitheroe Manu.
Reserve senior champion female went to First XI Simmentals from Salesian College, Sunbury, Victoria, with their exhibit Savannah Zoe M05.
The junior champion female was awarded to Webb Black Simmental stud, Glenburn, Vic, for their August 2016-drop heifer Webb Mystical.
VPC Cattle Services received reserve junior champion heifer with Savannah Zoe M012.
Ms du Vallon also won the breeder’s group, sire’s progeny and pair of bulls classes, coming away with the most successful exhibitor title for the breed.
