The 17th annual Adina Merino and Poll Merino ram sale was held at “Overdale”, Cooma, on October 16.
Held on-property for the second year the new sale complex, with further improvements this year, greeted a strong number of local buyers that competed on rams in the offering.
The Barron family sold a total of thirty four rams of the 40 offered for a 85 per cent clearance and a $1559 average.
Timothy Ferguson and Belinda Mackintosh from Woodend Pastoral Company, Cooma, purchased the top price Merino ram for $3600.
The Adina 199 ram, was by Adina 11-11 who is known as ‘Little Fergie’, weighed 112 kilograms and measured 19 in the micron, 2.9 standard deviation (SD), 15.3pc fibre diameter coefficient of variation (CV) and 99.8pc in the comfort factor CF with a greasy fleece weight (GFW) of 108pc.
Little Fergie, the sire of the sale topper, was successfully shown in 2013 winning the Grand Champion Fine Wool ribbon at Dubbo and Bendigo sheep shows.
Running a flock of 1500 ewes across 2000 acres of land, Mr Ferguson and Ms Mackintosh are repeat buyers of a few years that have recently moved away from the soft rolling skin (SRS) Merino trail.
Woodend Pastoral Company also secured another ram, Adina 159, for $2800.
The second top price ram, Adina 23, fetched $3400 selling to Sally Flat Partnership.

GG. and PG. Luton, Shannons Flat, bought six rams paying a top price of $1200 twice, and averaging $1033.
Adina co-principal James Barron, Cooma, said it was a solid sale with the top end selling well.
“People got good value for money,” he said.
“The rams are wool cutters – that’s what we do here, breed productive sheep.”
The sale was conducted by Landmark and Elders, Cooma, with stud stock specialists, Rick Power (Landmark) and Steve Ridley (Elders) sharing the auctioneer duties.
