THE Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association annual general meeting was held in Adelaide last Friday, along with an ALPA board meeting. The board elected Warren Johnston, Roberts Ltd, Tasmania, as the new president.
Due to the ALPA constitution, nobody can be president for a period of more than four years so David Corcoran has had to stand down as president of ALPA at this year’s AGM. Mr Corcoran will remain on the ALPA board as vice president.
Mr Johnston grew up on a family beef cattle operation in northern NSW close to the Queensland border.
His career in the agency sector began joining Dalgety Winchcombe FGC based in Brisbane in the mailroom as a trainee, before transferring into the branch network in locations such as St George, Mitchell, Goondiwindi and Dalby before accepting a position based in northern Tasmania 24 years ago as senior auctioneer at the age of 22 with Roberts Ltd.
Mr Johnston has since remained with Roberts based in Launceston with wife Trudi and their two children. He has held roles as northern livestock manager and state livestock manager during the past 16 years.
During this time he has remained as a senior livestock/stud stock auctioneer, along with being heavily involved in AuctionsPlus marketing and holding Level 1 Status for both sheep and cattle. He recently won the top assessor award for cattle 2017 on AuctionsPlus for Tasmania.
Mr Johnston has been a board member of ALPA as the Ruralco representative for the past five years and vice president of ALPA for the past four years. Congratulations Warren!
We are excited to announce the charity ALPA will support in 2018 will be Legacy. Legacy is a voluntary organisation providing services to about 70,000 families of veterans who have died or given their health as a result of their military service.
Today Legacy's caring and compassionate service assists more than 65,000 widow(er)s and 1800 children and dependants with a disability.
Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers. Their support and services now extend to include the dependents of members of today's Australian Defence Force who lose their lives or their health as a result of their military service.
There are more than 5900 volunteers who act as mentors to the widows and their families and who ensure Legacy’s promise to care for the families of deceased veterans is kept.
Last year’s charity was the John Logan Cancer Foundation and ALPA members helped to raise more than $47,000.
ALPA is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2017 ALPA and Fairfax Media Agency Award goes to Simone Dand, Elders Adelaide.
Ms Dand has implemented a fantastic traineeship program for Elders, encouraging people to enter the agency industry and agriculture in general.
She wins a trip to the Calgary Stampede in 2018 courtesy of Quadrant Ag Tours.
