ROSEVILLE Park Merino stud returned to Victoria with a bang on November 1, after being unable to conduct its annual sale last year at Hamilton for the first time in 30 years.
The Dubbo-based stud offered 50 Merino and Poll Merino rams and sold all but three, recording what stud principal, Matthew Coddington, said was the stud’s best ever Victorian sale average at $1681.
The top price of $3250 was reached for the first lot, a Merino ram who recorded fleece measurements of 16.7 micron, 3.0 standard deviation, 18.2 co-efficient of variation and 99.5 per cent comfort factor.
Purchaser, Will Dennis, Warncoort, Vic, said the ram was stylish and free in the wool and had a sirey look.
“We’ve been buying for five years and they’ve always done well, helping to increase our fleece weights and bodyweights.”
Volume buyers, Duncan and Jamie Macgugan, Branxholme, Vic, bought 12, to a top of $2750 at an average $1625. New buyer, Barry Peterson, Newstead, Vic, took home four to a top of $2500 at a $2000 average.
Mr Coddington’s father, Graham, also offered 20 Poll Merino rams from his Coddington Uardry stud and sold four to a top of $2250 at an average $1125.
Elders auctioneer, Ross Milne, said the Roseville Park sale was “solid”.
