During the prime cattle sale at Yass last Thursday numbers yarded increased on the previous sale, but quality was quoted as “fair to good’.
The market was dearer for young cattle, but heavier stock and grown cattle sold at cheaper rates.
Yearlings were well supplied and most went to feed or restocking orders with only a limited trade interest. Grown steers and heifers were also well supplied and most were carrying plenty of weight and cover.
Weaner steers sold to 351c/kg to restockers, while medium feeder steers sold from 285c/kg to 342c/kg.
Heavy feeders eased 6c/kg with not as much competition, averaging 287c/kg. Medium weight feeder heifers were firm and ranged from 275c/kg to 294c/kg with the pens of lighter heifers selling at 295c/kg.
The few trade cattle eased 11c/kg ranging from 268c to 274c/kg: with grown steers over 500kg easier by nine cents and bullocks eased by up to 15c/kg where prices ranged from 250c/kg to 275c/kg.
Grown heifers bought by processors were firm to 4c/kg easier, receiving from 230c/kg to 257c/kg: while the heavy cows were firm selling to a top price of 248c/kg, averaging 228c/kg.
Some representative sales included Angus steers, Hazeldean and KO-blood, account the Cobold family, Mogo Station, Batemans Bay, selling to 351c/kg and averaging 242.8c/kg to return $652.54: 12 Angus-cross steers, 413kg sold on account C and M Pearse, Tumut, for $1198.67 and 17 Angus steers sold by Cavan Station, Yass for $1148.50 (318.2c/kg).
Among the heavier pens of steers, S Kaye, “Rossieville”, Goulburn, sold 16 Angus weighing 532kg for $1409.47, F Kelly, Bowning received $1729.20 for his pen of Herefords weighing 660kg and Watershed Pastoral Company, Galong, sold steers weighing 410kg for $1265.63.
Nasser Services, Sutton Forest, offered Angus-cross steers, weighing 551kg which sold for $1504.23, and Tim Dowsley, Taralga received $1433.70 for his offering of 531kg Hereford steers.
Lerida Pastoral Company, Gunning, sold Angus-cross heifers weighing 458.8kg for $1178.99; M Croker, Fullerton via Crookwell, sold Angus heifers weighing 650kg for $1664 and Cavan Station, Yass, received $1436 for Angus heifers.
Glendaruel Pastoral Company, Braidwood, penned 19 Angus cows weighing 498.3kg which sold for $1132.21 and the Macarthur Onslow family, Goulburn, sold Angus cows weighing 586kg for $1324.93.
