A FAIR quality yarding of just under 1000 cattle were sold at the Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday.
The large line of cows with calves were quoted as cheaper by the National Livestock Reporting Service, while the weaner steer price were firm and weaner heifers a tad dearer than recent sales.
Weaner steers weighing less than 200 kilograms sold from $500 to $855, while those from 200kg to 280kg were knocked down for $590 to $820. Weaner steers tipping the scales at more than 280kg sold from $750 to $975.
Some very light weaner heifers started the bidding at $355 and pushed up to $700.
The medium and heavier weight weaner heifers received winning bids of between $580 and $765, depending on weight.
Yearling steers sold from $550 to $900 although it was harder to gauge a trend for this category due to only about 25 head being offered.
Yearling heifers topped at $800, while pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows did a little better and topped at $950.
The price spread for cows with calves less than two months was wide and ranged from $740 (for light cows) up to $1700 (for a pen of good conditioned Herefords).
Cows with two- to four-month-old calves sold from $1120 to $1725.
Unjoined cows topped at $830, although there were limited numbers offered.
Dubbo Stock and Station Agents Association conducted the sale.
