Yalgoo client success in the market and wether trials helped create interest from a range of repeat and new buyers at the 29th Yalgoo Ram Sale on February 3, held on-property at Walcha.
The Nivison family sold 71 rams of the 76 offered for a 93 per cent clearance and a $2660 average.
Elders auctioneer, Andy McGeoch, said the sale was a reflection of the many client successes that were being had with the Yalgoo bloodlines.
“The same buyers were back but there was a few new buyers this year that were attracted to some of the results of Yalgoo in the real world,” Mr McGeoch said.
Repeat buyer of about 20 years, Les Wright, “Icely”, Lewis Ponds near Orange, purchased the top-priced ram, Yalgoo 434, for $7000.
The sale topper was sired by the CP 1327 ram and measured 15.2 in the micron, had a greasy fleece weight (GFW) of 129pc, yeild of 78pc, fibre diameter coefficient of variation (CV) of 21.5pc and a yearling weight (YWT) of 116pc. It had a Fibre Production Plus (FP+) index of 173 and a Merino Production Plus (MP+) index of 183.
Running a self-replacing flock of 600 breeding ewes and a total of 2000 sheep, Mr Wright said the quality of the wool and figures of the ram stood out on the day.
“He had a nice bright, bold crimp and he has it pretty well stacked on with the figures to back it up,” Mr Wright said.
Parkvale Pastoral Company, Parkes, secured the second top-priced ram, Yalgoo 159, for $5400.
It was sired by the CP574 ram and measured 15.8 in the micron, 129pc GFW, yield 77.1pc, CV 16pc and had a YWT of 145pc. It had a FP+ of 159 and MP+ of 166.
Parkvale Pastoral Company purchased a total of seven rams for an average of $2657.
The largest volume buyers were locals, RF. and PM. King, Walcha, who purchased a total of 11 rams to a top of $3400 and a $1964 average.
Wandjina Pastoral, Bendemeer, bought nine rams to a top of $3600 and a $1978 average.
New buyers, University of New England Rural Properties, Armidale, secured seven rams for a $3400 top and a $2400 average.
Other volume buyers were Fernleigh Enterprises, Ellerston, who purchased seven rams topping at $3600 and averaging $2771 for their sale draft.
