Glenellerslie peaked at $10,000 on three occasions with two poll bulls and a dehorned bull making the top money at the 25th annual on-property Helmsman sale at Adelong on Tuesday.
The Smith family cleared 32 of their 55 bulls offered to average $4594.
In the breakdown 19 of 27 dehorned bulls offered where sold for a top of $10,000 and averaged $4382.
While 13 of the 27 poll bulls offered were sold for an average of $4904 with a top of $10,000 twice.
Return buyer Greg O’Brien, “Maringo”, Merrijig, Vic, has been buying Glenellerslie bulls for over 6 years.
Mr O’Brien brought Glenellerlie Quinlan 2 the 882 kilogram March 2016 born bull after viewing him at the 2018 Stock and Land Beef Week open day.
Mr O’Brien, who joins roughly 200 Herefords cows each year, said: “Quinlan 2 caught my eye at the Beef Week open day due to his carcase, he will fit right into my herd.
“He has all the characteristics I am looking for, his size and weight will fit in well with our breeding program,” he said
Robert Webb, “Mundongo", Tumut, took home a March 2016 born Poll Hereford bull in Glenellerslie Quill 2 who weighed in at 942kg for the equal top money of $10,000.
Long-term supporter Mr Webb said, “I have been buying Glenellerslie bulls since the late 1970s, joining 140 cows for my commercial program.
“He has outstanding figures and correct confirmation,” he said.
The third bull to reach the top money of $10,000 was Glenellerslie Quail, a May 2016 drop bull who weighed 890kg and was purchased by Ian Shaw, “Whitefields”, Galong.
S.J. Harding, Yass, led the volume buyers putting together a draft of three bulls for an average of $3833 paying to a top of $4500.
Eight of the 22 purchasers bought multiple bulls.
The Helmsman sale was conducted by Elders Tumut with Michael Glasser, GTSM, in charge of the bids.
