A bull from Boggabri in north west NSW walked out of the Murray Grey show ring at the Canberra Royal draped in broad ribbons.

Two-year-old Carlinga Mordred (PB), exhibited by Kym Carlton, Carlinga Murray Greys, Boggabri was junior champion in Brisbane last year.

Mordred won senior and grand champion bull and best exhibit at Canberra.

Ms Carlton now plans to show him at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

She said some potential buyers were showing interest in Mordred who was sired by Ondiong F78 out of Carlinga Penny J85.

But she wasn’t keen to sell so would demand top dollar to let him go.

She has 27 cows in calf to him.

The judge, Scott Myers, Myers Limousins, Moss Vale described Mordred as “an absolute cracker”.

“He is a really well balanced, well made bull,” he said.

Mordred beat the grand champion female, Ayr Park Kristen, exhibited by Ian and Narelle Wilcox, Ayr Park Murray Greys, Woodstock.

Mr Myers said his two grand champions were a reminder of how good the Murray Grey breed was.

The Ayr Park stud was established in 1999 and now runs about 90 breeding females.

The reserve champion senior female was Elizabethfields Gemma K21 exhibited by M. A. Hunter, Yass.

Junior champion bull honours went to Carlinga Nobleman, by Glenliam Farm Juggernaut J104 out of Carlinga Penny J42, exhibited by Kym Carlton.
