With a yarding of 952 head at Yass, the market was quoted as “firm for quality” by Delta Agribusiness livestock agent, Cam Rosser.

“There was solid demand for good Angus cattle which made them a bit dearer, but anything that was going to calve in the spring was a bit harder to move,” he said.

There was a good run of weaner steers and heifers with most being light and medium weights, and close to 200 PTIC cows and heifers. Cow and calf units were well supplied but quality was mixed, while weaners sold firm to dearer with the cow and calf units cheaper.

Light weaner steers sold from $525 to $760, while a good selection of medium weaners sold from $680 to $950. The medium weaner heifers sold from $595 to $780. Heavy yearling heifers reached $980. Cows with calves topped at $1750 with most sales from $1300 to $1500. PTIC cows with calves sold to $1,820.

Peter Keary, owner “Bedemere”, Pejar was on hand with property manager Barry Goesch to sell 28 Angus cross steers, six-months, Rennylea-blood for $950.

The Ryan family of Gundaroo, sold 13 nine/10-month Angus-cross heifers, Kenny’s Creek-blood and average weight 295kgs, for $820. Roger Hartage, “Noree”, Gundaroo sold 11 two-and-half-year Angus cows  PTIC, for $1600. Due to calve in May they were sold due to a lack of feed, but he was very happy with prices achieved given the season.
