Yanco Agricultural High School student Hamish Maclure, Tarcutta, has taken out the top spot in the Royal Canberra Show beef cattle junior judging competition and won himself an associate judging position for 2019.
Judged by Scott Myers from Myers Limousin stud, Moss Vale, the competition had young judges testing their live cattle assessment skills but none could get around Hamish Maclure, from Keajura Park Show Team, who proved his strength at a young age, placing first in the 14-years category and receiving overall champion.
For the championship ribbon, Hamish was up against his school mate Harry Morris, Leeton, who won the 15-years age group, the 16-years winner Aiesha Zaekin Lewis, and Brooke Chandler, Richmond High School, who placed first in the 17-years and over.
Mr Maclure will now be the associate judge in the beef section of the 2019 Royal Canberra Show.
Kate Swain from Kaytee Angus, Peak Hill, won champion open parader for the second consecutive year after winning the 16-years paraders class.
Reserve champion open parader went to Miranda Eyb, James Sheahan Catholic High School, Orange, who placed second to Ms Swain in a strong class on the day.
Alana Wade from Western Sydney University, Richmond, placed first in the 17- to 25-years paraders in front of Georgia Rhodes from New Zealand. The eight to 14-years was won by Darby Hutchinson, Dubbo.
Champion school parader went to Wellington High student, Kahlissa Wykes, winner of the 16-year-old section. Reserve champion in the school paraders competition was Gemma Lydford from St Johns College, Dubbo, who placed second to Ms Wykes in the 16-years section.
Nathan Hanson, St Johns College, Dubbo, was awarded first place in the 17-years while Charlotte Nugent from Wagga Wagga Christian College, placed first in the 15-years paraders.
A total of 84 students were entered in the 14-years paraders competition held on February 21. This class was won by Kate Leonard from St Johns College, Dubbo.
