Entrants in the ANZ Agribusiness Gunning Flock Ewe Competition are maintaining their traditional style of wool on well-grown sheep.
Judge James Derrick, Karoola Downs Polls, Adelong noted the 12 flocks entered were of a very good standard, but showing the difficulty of coming through a very tough season.
“The producers are also focusing on growing out their young ewes to assist them in reaching their genetic potential,” he said. Return judge was Ben Lane, manager, Windridge Farms, Young.
They awarded first place to the Bassnet family, “Narragundah”, Gunning for their Bogo-blood flock classed and managed by Dean Lawton.
Second place went to the Hewitt family, “Allamby”, Gunning for their Tallawong/Yarrawonga-blood flock, while first time entrant Joe Byrnes, “Woodpark”, Cullerin came third with his Bocoble/Ledgerton-blood flock.
Future development award Wes and Belinda Cosgrove, “Rockview”, for their Terrick West-blood flock.
