Solidly supported by repeat buyers and other seedstock producers, the fifth annual on-property sale of Charolais bulls on account Kenmere Charolais stud, Holbrook, saw a top price of $10,000 with 34 out of 41 sold for a $5338 average.
The top price at $10,000 was paid by Palgrove Charolais stud, Warwick, Qld, for Kenmere Matlock, a spring 2016 drop son of Kenmere Chock.
The bull was in the top one per cent for calving ease and export value and top five per cent for rib fat and domestic index.
Palgrove co-principal, David Bondfield, was looking for a sire homozygous for Poll and with calving ease.
“He also has great EBVs, low birth weight with high growth,” he said.
Volume buyers included CM Pastoral, “Cooringle”, Moama, Victoria which bought 10 new sires to top of $7000 four times for an average price of $6250 and Sheaffe Bros, “Eurugabah”, Booligal, who paid to $6000 four times for their draft of seven bulls which averaged $5286.
Blythe Airie, Strathbogie, Vic, added to his sire battery with a draft of five bulls for average price $4400 and the Ross Morton Family Trust, Holbrook, selected two bulls at $4000 and $5000.
Individual buyers included Doug Constance, Berridale, who paid $6500 for his choice of the offering, Kenmere Macmillan, a July 2016 drop son of Kenmere Radiator. N. T. and P. S. Seymour, Holbrook, also paid $6500 for their selection, Kenmere Manion, and G. R. and N. E. King, Frankston South, Vic, purchased Kenmere Myles for $6000.
Speaking after the sale, stud co-principal, Ann-Marie Collins, appreciated the support shown for her continued concentration on lifting the genetic and productive potential of her cattle.
“We are excited with the way the bulls sold today.
“The customers have obviously picked the best of the bulls and they’ve done really well.”
For the Collins family, it was a matter of pride to see stud and commercial beef producers recognise their efforts.
“I’ve been working up to this for 12 years, we get better each year,” Ann-Marie Collins said.
“Very happy with the result and obviously working on the future.”
The sale was conducted by Landmark stud stock, Albury, and Peter Ruaro Rodwells, Wodonga, with Peter Godbolt taking the bids.
