A ram born in April-May 2017 described as an outstanding winner took out the White Dorper grand championship for Cherilyn Lowe and familys Nomuula stud, Moombi, at the 2018 Sydney Royal Show.
In fact, Nomuula had a clean-sweep of all four broadribbons, also exhibiting grand ewe and the reserve champions in each sex.
After the first class Mrs Pagett made the point that ewes not only had to have femininity, but reproduce in their whole life and not break down.
You will hear me say this all day, length, muscle, balance and production, she said.
She said the grand champion ram, Nomuula Dylan, which paraded in his first showing, won on his balance, masculinity and was so well muscled.
A very well balanced ram theres nothing I can fault, just a beautiful ram.
Mrs Pagett picked the youngest ram in the section for her reserve.
I gave the award to the baby ram. a very well balanced ram with no structural faults. He has a really good rump length as opposed to the bigger rams which just dont have the balance in their hindquarter.
Grand champion ewe, the two to four teeth class-winner, Nomuula Toffee, had won her class at the recent Dubbo Eastern Region fixture.
This ewe is very long, deep, well balanced and full of femininity, Mrs Pagett said.
She has all the attributes to reproduce during a long life.
Reserve champion ewe, Nomuula Bronte, won the April-May 2017 class and had been awarded second in her class at Dubbo earlier this month.
Mrs Pagett said the reserve was very feminine with meat qualities.
She carries her meat right the way down her rump, has a very good spring of rib, which is her barrel, and thats where we are looking for a lot of meat, so we can get more meat on our chops.
Whats more, she has a very feminine head.
Speaking after judging where 16 rams and 24 ewes from four studs exhibited resulting with Nomuula taking out most successful exhibitor, Mrs Pagett said she had been most impressed with the standard of entries presented before her.
Im really impressed with the overall balance and conformation of the champions.
Its been great and a pleasure to officiate over.
Harewood stud of Diana Stewart, Rock Forest, exhibited one ram that stood second to the grand champion and another standing second April-May 2017 plus a third place in the ewe two to four teeth class.
The June-July 2017 class was contested by three rams with B&B Farms stud of Phillip van Schalkwyk, Rocky Glen showing the winner. Northholme stud conducted by Northholme Grammar School, Arcadia, had two rams placed second and third.
B&B Farms stud also had successes in the ewe born June-July 2017 showing first and second placegetters.
Nomuula stud won both the sires progeny group and the group to represent White Dorper breed in the Peter Taylor interbreed group class.
