MERINO ewes topped the Narromine store sale for the second consecutive month at $161 in a yarding of 14,000 head featuring an 11,500 head dispersal of John Rae and family’s Pentdale Nominees, Carwell Station, Quambone last Wednesday.
Topping the sale at $161 were 362 Merino ewes 2½ years July shorn of Haddon Rig blood bred by the Perry family, “Inverness”, Warren, who also gained $160 each for 369 3½ year-olds.
GRB Pastoral, “Springfield”, Cumnock, sold 149 March/April 2017 drop first-cross ewes September shorn for $152 each. Another 71 of 2015 drop August shorn and not detectable made $118.
Buyers came from Wanaaring, Fords Bridge, Barmedman, Lightning Ridge and Balranald, to restock after some rain, with Landmark Wilson Russ agent, Ashley McGilchrist saying prices were firm, but buyers chased the bigger number drafts.
They chased the big drafts offered in the Carwell Station dispersal with the top money at $138 each being paid for 976 April/May 2016 drop 100 per cent scanned to Coddington Poll rams and also 2015 drops going Bellenbar Station, Fords Bridge, which had been destocked for two years.
A draft of Calwell’s 760 April/May 2016 drop scanned by not detectable ewes sold at $132 to the Forbes district while 761 2013 drops made $131 and 1277 2014 drop made $131 and $130 a head.
The Barlow family, “Owendale”, Narromine, gained $146 a head for 66 three- to four-year-old first-cross ewes December shorn and at the point of lambing to Poll Dorset rams.
