Champion Merino fleece in the district exhibits wool competition has been awarded to Edington of Armidale.
Stud owner, Mark Waters, said it was his third win in the competition in about 10 years, and despite a good growing season he didnt expect a win.
I knew it was a good growing year, the wool was all quite big and well styled, Mr Waters said.
But if you go to Sydney expecting to win you might get a kick in the behind.
You hope for the best and you cross your fingers and sometimes you come up with the goods and sometimes you go down and shake hands with the winner.
The fleece weighed 6.5 kilograms and measured 8.5 micron when it left the farm to be prepared by the Central Districts wool team.
Mr Waters stud is based on rams from Glanna stud, Gulgong, and Ron Rayner of Glanna does his classing.
Mr Waters also entered some wool in the sheep and wool show this year and walked away with the champion open spinners title.
