The Osory stud is a fixture in the goat pavilion at Sydney Royal Show for very good reasons.
This year a pen was strewn with all the ribbons the stud and its tandem stud Televar won in the judging ring, serving as a testament to their standing in the industry.
Co-principal, Mudgee breeder Darrell Bishop is a familiar face in the winner’s ring, having exhibited there for 49 years.
Now, three generations of his family take part in the show, including his daughter Krystle Rheinberger and baby granddaughter Eliza.
This year the Best Dairy Goat in Show honours went to Grand Senior Champion Doe, Televar Arctic.
The Toggenburg doe, aged three years and older, and in milk, was sired by Fontana Elm Sultan to dam Televar Arabesque.
Arctic was exhibited by Osory and Televar studs co-principal James Parlevliet.
James had taken home the prestigious Best in Show ribbon from 2015 to 2017 for Televar Iris, which just edged out Arctic last year.
“It always gives you a great buzz to get Best in Show at Sydney Royal as it’s the premier show in the southern hemisphere and the ultimate show to win in the dairy goat section in Australia,” James said.
The amalgamated studs cleaned up the ribbons this year, including the Junior All Breeds Champion – Lima Silfina, an Anglo Nubian goatling aged 18 months to 24 months.
They also had the Grand Champion Kid of Show – Osory China, a Saanen doe kid aged six to 12 months.
They won Best Saanen Breed with Osory Saraband, and Best British Alpine with Osory Kalypso. Televar Arctic won the Toggenburg breed exhibit, while Jubilee Black Firestone won the Australian Melaan exhibit.
Over the years, the studs have won more than 60 Best in Show Angora and Dairy sashes.
