Saulsbury Sebastian may have been the star in the pig judging at Sydney Royal, but Master Lachlan Potts certainly stole the show.
Sebastian, Senior and Supreme Champion Boar of Show, went on to win Best Pig in Show.
Jointly exhibited by stud partners Todd Dennett and Rex Boardman, Camden, Sebastian was shown in the 12 months and older Berkshire class and was sired by Lynjoleen Koonibba Y531 to dam Saulsbury Sabina B010.
He competed against Lachlan’s Champion and Junior Champion sow Balmoral Chantelle F74, four to six months, for Berkshire honours of Best Exhibit.
Lachlan, 7, Casino, has been exhibiting for three years under his own name and when he was only three, he helped his father Geoff Potts, Armidale, in the show ring.
The young competitor was ecstatic to win champion sow, and wowed the spectators with his skill in the ring, manoeuvring the beast around to show the judge her best attributes.
Judge Shaun Blenkiron, Keyneton, South Australia, took his time deliberating over the Berkshire exhibits, saying they were “pretty close”, but in the end he decided on the boar, which eventually won Best in Show.
Mr Dennett, thrilled his boar won top honours, said the family wasn’t even sure they would make the show this year, due to a change in circumstances which meant the stud was in the middle of moving properties.
