The second annual Ray White Dorrigo weaner sale yarded just under 800 head of British and European cross cattle with best Angus bringing $1068.
Steers 300-338 kilograms made 276-334 cents per kilogram; 250-299kg made 290-322c/kg; 200-249kg made 280-328c/kg; 139-199kg made 255-318c/kg
Top steers by the Schwartz family, “The Ponds Farming”, Dorrigo, brought 316c/kg at 338kg and went to a grass fed fattener west of Rockhampton. Buyer Dave Dawson, Port Macquarie, came away with a sale average of 312c/kg at 316 kilograms, all of them heading to Queensland.
The Schwartz’s sold Shorthorn, 329kg at 320c/kg to make $1054, also bought by Mr Dawson.
Best pen of British steers, Angus by transplanted Queenslander and league legend Stuart Kelly, Bostobrick, sold for 334c/kg at 308kg to make $1028 going to the Hunter with buyer Robert Martin, Singleton, who came away with 60 steers averaging 306c/kg at 285kg.
The Holden and Anderson families, Dorrigo, sold 13 Angus steers 307kg for 322c/kg or $980 going back on grass to Bob Murray, Paddies Plain, North Dorrigo.
“They were weaned and quiet and ready to go,” he said, noting the calves were born only a kilometre across the paddock, so should be acclimatised.
Grass fattener Matt Jackson, Guyra bought 24 steers, 223kg at 295c/kg.
Chris Gibbons, North Dorrigo, bought 32 Angus steers, 255kg at 307c/kg and will put them back in grass with winter oats sown after potatoes.
Dave and Beryl Beaumont, Dorrigo, sold Angus and Black Baldies, 317kg for 330c/kg or $1048, going to the Hunter.
Merv and Sandra McGuire, Deervale, sold Charolais/ Angus 337kg for 304c/kg or $1024 going to Roma, Qld, with Ray White’s Bruce Birch doing the bidding.
Dorrigo native, Gabriella Beaumont, Brooklyn Park Livestock, Gunnedah, sold black baldy steers from stud poll Hereford mother’s by a stud Angus bull, 270kg at 314c/kg to bring $849.
David Hanlon, “Culgoa Pastoral”, Deervale sold Angus 265kg for 296c/kg going to the Hunter.
Peter and Krystyna Prince, Fernbrook, bought 18 Angus steers, 308kg at 318c/kg to populate their newly purchased property.
Heifers
Prices for heifers fell back, in line with the market everywhere, and light cattle going into a dry winter were penalised the hardest.
Females 300-332kg made 232-256c/kg; 250-299kg made 220-282kg; 200-249kg made 230-282c/kg; 150-199kg made 220-250c/kg.
Bob Murray, North Dorrigo, bought 32 Angus heifers, 275kg at 282c/kg and another pen of 12 heavier Angus heifers, 332kg at 256c/kg, or $850.
Matt Jackson, Guyra bought 62 heifers, 226kg at 254c/kg and another 35 heifers, 193kg, at 242c/kg.
