THE world’s best racehorse etched her name into Australian racing history when notching up her 25th successive win when powering away to win the $4 million ATC Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes-G1 over 2000 metres on Day 2 of The Championship at Randwick on Saturday.
Winning by almost four lengths, Winx equalled the great sprinting mare Black Caviar of a 25 winning sequence, a record she set at Randwick in 2013.
A total of 18 of Winx’s wins have been at Group 1 class, the highest level of racing, with the mare now an earner of an amazing $18.374 million.
A six-year- old daughter of deceased Irish bred sire Street Cry, Winx has raced 35 times for 29 wins and three seconds, with three unplaced runs from earlier racing as a two and three-year- old.
Last Saturday Winx made her opposition appear to be second-rate, however seven of her opponents were already million-dollar earners themselves.
Jockey Hugh Bowman settled Winx in last position (of the nine runners), before sweeping around the outside rounding the home turn to power away to win.
The mighty mare may now have a rest, but watch out for another possible tilt at a fourth WS Cox Plate appearance in Melbourne in the spring.
