A classy, balanced Poll Dorset ram with loads of carcase stole the limelight at the State Sheep Show, held as part Dubbo show, when it won supreme exhibit of the show.
This was over the longwool and shedding breed interbreed champions, which were selected from 644 animals across 750 total entries.
Poll Dorset and interbreed judge, Will Milroy, Rangeview Poll Dorsets, Pipers River, Tasmania, said the Tattykeel ram won supreme for its overall balance and structure.
“He had a beautiful Dorset head and the meat qualities that you’re looking for in a meat sheep,” he said.
To win supreme, the ram had to overcome a quality ewe, another Poll Dorset also from Tattykeel, which was the interbreed champion ewe of the show.
“The ewe was a very powerful ewe, full of meat – a very powerful ewe.”
However, the ram’s overall balance was superior and is what gave it the edge, he said.
Tattykeel also won the supreme interbreed group, with one ram and two ewes, which included the two supreme individual exhibits.
