The complete dispersal of Raleigh Dairy Holdings' best cows, dry and in milk, were sold at Kempsey last week to a firm market, with 100 per cent clearance averaging $1001 a head.
A good crowd with 60 registered bidders included the usual meat buyers but all went back to the paddock with half the yarding trucked to southern NSW and northern Victoria, according to Stuart Lockhart, from Dairy Livestock Services.
Remaining cows stayed local to the mid-north coast, including Dorrigo, with a few pens going to the Hunter, which was good for confidence considering their recent struggle with water.
Holsteins, milk and dry, sold the best, $950 to $1400 to average $1130 and Jersey sold from $750 to $1225 but it was an Illawarra cross that topped the sale at $1450 with the lowest of that breed making $750.
All the Brown Swiss went to one buyer at Taree who paid an average of $1200 and all the Guernseys went to a single buyer at Camden, who paid $1000.
