The 53rd annual Herefords Australia National Show and Sale proved successful with bulls topping at an impressive $38,000.
A total of 151 bulls were sold of the 185 offered for a 82 per cent clearance and total sale average of $8073.
Senior bulls reached the $38,000 high, with the 67 sold averaging a strong $9179.
Seventy-eight junior bulls sold to a top of $34,000 to average $7103 while the six “Top of the Drop” yearling bulls sold fetched a $8333 average with a $14,000 top.
The senior champion bull of the show, Glendan Park Maddox M024, offered by Glendan Park Hereford stud, hit the top price of $38,000 and was purchased by Vern and Debbie Robertson from Goulburn,
By Injemira Anzac AI J188 from Glendan Park Marinda J063, the polled sale topper was 26-months-old and weighed 1096 kilograms with an eye muscle area (EMA) of 144 centimeters squared and measurements of 43cm in the scrotal circumference and 25 millimeters and 15mm in the rump and rib fats.
Second top-priced bull, and top-priced junior and horned Hereford bull was EDR Mojo, exhibited by David Russell, EDR Herefords, Wynyard, Tasmania, who was purchased by Western District Pastoral and Cara Park stud for $34,000.
The 24-month-old sire was by Yarram Unique F107 from EDR Golden J133, and was the intermediate champion of the show.
It weighed 944kg, had an EMA of 130cm2 and measured 40cm in the scrotum and 22mm and 14mm in the rump and rib fats.
Yearling bulls in the Top of the Drop topped at $14,000 for Centennial Jetfire N002, offered by Paul and Nola Rogers, Holbrook, who was also the champion of the new section.
Purchased through AuctionsPlus, the 14-month-old bull was by Dunoon Jet J172 from Mount Difficult Glynis H67. It weighed 662kg with an EMA of 98cm2, scrotal circumference of 40cm and 16mm and 10mm in the rump and rib fats.
Another high price bull was 24-month-old WRL Makka offered by Wesley Lowien, WRL Herefords, Dalby, Queensland, who sold for $30,000 to Adelong based buyers, Glenellerslie Herefords.
The 990kg sire was by Mawarra Black Heart from WRL Spruce G054, and measured 42cm in the scrotum, 135cm2 in the EMA with 21mm rump and 11mm rib fat.
The grand champion bull of the show, Kymarney Majestic, exhibited by Scott Lewington, Uranquinty, sold for $7000 to Bernard Hore and Co, “Echarina” Holbrook.
Overall 63 Hereford bulls were sold for a $34,000 top and averaged $8857 while 88 Poll Hereford bulls sold to the $38,000 top and a $7511 average.
The sale was conducted by Elders, Landmark and Ruralco with Paul Dooley, Peter Godbolt and Michael Glasser as the respective auctioneers from each agency.
