HEALTHY support was shown to the Millner family’s draft at the 29th annual bull sale at their Rosedale stud, Blayney, last week.
Offering a selection of bulls, yearlings, composite bulls and heifers saw the stud sell 45 of 55 stud bulls to a top of $17,000 at an average $6790.
The five yearlings sold well to a top of $11,000. There were five further bulls sold after the auction.
Eleven Charolais-Shorthorn cross bulls also sold well with six sold to a high of $7000, averaging $4666.
The composite bulls and heifers were a little softer in price and clearance with one heifer clearing and eight of 21 composites selling to an average of $4125.
With a second top price of $15,000, two at $12,000 and one at $11,000 there were eight bulls that went for over $10,000.
Top-priced bull, Rosedale Mercado (AI) (P), a 21-month-old polled son of LT Venture 3198 who had a scrotal circumference of 41 centimetres, a rump fat score of nine millimetres and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 125 centimetres squared was sold to Palgrove Charolais, Dalveen, Queensland.
Ben Noller, manager of business development and genetics at Palgrove, felt that he had power, performance, balance, with his EBVs and raw data, his overall thickness and skin.
He also had the advantage being a poll, Mr Noller said.
“He will go straight into our stud program. We were after the out-cross genetics.”
The second top priced bull at $15,000 was Rosedale Moregain (P), also 21 months old.
The 856 kilogram bull with a scrotal circumference of 41cm, rump fat score of nine mm and EMA of 127cm2 was sold to Minnie Vale Charolais, Narrabri.
There were four volume buyers each taking four bulls.
Seriston Pastoral Company, Avenue Range, South Australia, topped at $8000 with an average of $5750.
Mandurama’s Hilton Partnership, topped at $4000 and averaged $4000.
Murrumbidgeree Pastoral, Dubbo, topped at $9000 and averaged $6500.
Jeff Garland on behalf of the Thomas family, Mungindi, topped at $4000 and averaged $4000.
Co-principal, James Millner, thought that under the tough seasonal conditions the sale was in line with their expectations.
“The better bulls sold how we would have hoped. Unfortunately a few of our regular buyers could not attend due to the season,” he said.
“We are starting to roll our our Rosedale Ruby supply chain and are happy to see more and more cattle coming through the system with our own clients.”
The sale was conducted by Elders Bathurst, with Nick Fogarty, Bowyer and Livermore, and Paul Dooley sharing the rostrum duties.
