SOME of the country’s best Shorthorn genetics will be available at the 59th annual Dectomax Shorthorn Show and Sale at Dubbo on June 12 and 13.
Thirty six studs from NSW, Victoria and Queensland will offer about 130 bulls and 10 females in the sale, to be interfaced with AuctionsPlus.
Sale committee president and vendor Lester Job, Moombi Shorthorns, Cumnock, said the event was a good opportunity for buyers to purchase from a range of bloodlines.
“We have several vendors have been in the sale for many years, but we’re also getting new studs in the sale every year,” Mr Job said.
“In previous years we’ve had commercial and stud support, and some studs have been set up using cattle from Dubbo as their foundation sires.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for new breeders to get their genetics out there.”
Last year’s sale reached a high of $32,000 for Bayview Usher L83, and a set a new record average of $8500 for 104 bulls. Usher, the grand champion bull of the show and winner of the Macquarie Williams memorial trophy, was sold by Chris and Anissa Thompson, Bayview Shorthorns, Yorketown, SA, to Don Eather, Doolibah, Bunnan, and the Williams family, Terra, Dubbo.
The event begins with the bull judging on Tuesday, June 12, at 12pm, with Steve Peake, Bowen Poll Herefords and Peakes Angus, judging. The special female sale is at 5.30pm, with the show and sale dinner, featuring Thousand Guineas beef, at 6.30pm. The bull sale begins at 10am on Wednesday, June 13.
A new addition to this year’s event is the inclusion of an encouragement award, given in memory of the late Tony Fountain, a stalwart of the breed who passed away earlier this year.
