A passion for cattle and farming has been instilled in Angus Llewellyn’s blood from a very early age.
He learnt to count by counting calves in the paddock with his father and he’s critiqued cattle in the yards since he could talk, and now he’s the associate judge for the Red Angus and Simmental national show.
At the age of 16, Angus has been running his own stud, Jillangus Red Angus for the past eight years on his family’s property at Willalooka in the south east of South Australia.
He has proudly exhibited senior champion bull at the Royal Adelaide show and has received many other board ribbons at shows, exhibiting his cattle, along with his family’s.
Angus has won the junior judging at Adelaide Royal for three years in a row and has been the sub intermediate and intermediate champion herdsman at the SA Junior Heifer expo in previous years. He is the current recipient of the Junior Red Angus Ambassador award.
Angus had been competing in junior judging from the age of eight, and has previously been associate judge at the Mount Gambier show.
He exhibited for the first time at the national last year, and this is his first major show as a judge.
“I like showing people what type of cattle I like, and you get to see what types of cattle are out there,” Angus said.
“The public speaking helps you build confidence and I like learning from other people who have been in the industry for years.”
