In these times of seasonal hardship breeding programs must continue and opportunities for commercial and stud breeders to buy replacement sires at affordable prices were at the 57th annual Herefords Australia Dubbo Poll Hereford National show and sale on Tuesday.
It turned out to be a buyer’s market with just 44 bulls sold of the 95 offered from among the nation’s top stud herds of four states selling to a top of $32,000 and averaging $7965.
Bargains were evident as 31 of the bulls sold under $10,000 while the other 13 went for $10,000 and over with opportunities lost for other missing genuine commercial breeders needing replacement sires.
Top money at $32,000 was paid for the reserve champion Supermarket Index bull Ravensdale Guardian M222 (ET) (P), shown by Brian and Jenny Burgess, Ravensdale stud, Holbrook, and purchased by Steve and Deb Reid, Talbalba stud, Millmerran, with Mark Duthie, Callaway stud, Dalby, Queensland.
