Reedy Creek Hereford stud, based at Loomberah, near Tamworth, was established in 1976 with foundation females from Strathleigh Herefords.
The stud originally sold bulls through the multi-vendor Glen Innes Whiteface Sale, but stud principal Rob Haling has hosted on property sales since 1991.
Reedy Creek has used genetics from a large number of Australian studs, including Hobartville (dispersed), Belford (dispersed), Benama, Holtspur, Emu Holes, Tummel, Oak Hill, Glentrevor, Injemire, Courallie, Midgeon, Devon Court, Ballina, Ardno, Kaludah, Stannum and Ironbark.
Among Mr Haling’s highest performing sires has been Reedy Creek Homebuilder.
“He has bred extremely well, for both bulls and females, and we’ve had a lot of success with commercial clients looking for that bloodline.”
On display on day three of Northern Beef Week will be the bulls for sale on July 24, as well as some younger bulls.
“We’ve got one very good bull who could go into any stud, but I’m focusing on the commercial market,” Mr Haling said.
“Last year’s sale topped at $8500 and one buyer from Queensland took 10, so they’re the sort of people that are the strength of our market.
“We’re looking for growth, muscling, thickness and length in our cattle.
“It’s all about how many kilograms you can put on calves.”
