Mullamuddy Brangus was started by Greg and Angelique Boyce in 2013 with the purchase of eight cows and a bull from Tony Elton, Elton Brangus, Mendooran.
Over the years females have been purchased from Fearnley, Narganoo Kajarabie, Rocky View, Tilkah, Burenda and BBB Brangus, while stud sires have been purchased from Belview and BBB, along with an artificial insemination program implemented in 2017.
The Gunnedah-based stud aims to produce medium content bulls for the local region and interstate with an emphasis on structure, fertility and temperament.
“In recent years the property has undergone an extensive pasture renovation program to accommodate the nutritional requirements of a stud herd with the belief that half the breeding is in the feeding,” Mr Boyce said.
“Bulls are supplementary fed when seasonal conditions dictate and cows and calves graze native pasture and oats throughout the season. Despite the seasonal difficulties in recent years the Brangus cattle continue to impress with their ability to not just survive but thrive.”
The stud will open its gates on day five of Northern Beef Week, displaying autumn calving cows with calves. There will also be a run of heifers for sale, as well as a bull for sale.
Mr Boyce said the open day was an opportunity for the stud to showcase its business.
“We get to show where we are heading,” he said.
