Maxwellton Angus stud, Ebor, originally started in 1997 with the purchase of stud cows from the renowned Victory Angus stud.
The stud, which is run by Bill and Jennifer Maxwell, promptly began an artificial insemination (AI) program, and this has been carried out to this day, utilising the best available genetics.
The selection of AI genetics has been based on performance, balanced, accurate figures coupled with conformation and ability to produce consistent quality progeny.
This has led to a vast improvement in the depth, thickness, length and weight gain within the herd.
The pressure on the female fertility of the herd is immense, as 100 per cent are inseminated, including maiden heifers and first-calf heifers.
The stud has strict guidelines on the culling process undertaken on the herd in regard to fertility, conformation and temperament.
The main sales of stud animals have predominantly been along the Mid North Coast, Eastern Tablelands and Western Plains.
Bulls have been sold privately and through bull sales like Grafton, where the stud has seen excellent results.
This year Maxwellton Angus stud is aiming to expand its enterprise, and showcase what the stud has been working towards over the past two decades.
The stud will have two-year-old grass-fed bulls, yearling bulls and females on display during day seven of Northern Beef Week.
