Top Shelf Angus stud has a very simple breeding philosophy – it is focuses on kilograms, carcase, confirmation and temperament.
The Singleton stud is owned by Daniel Andrews, who has a very rare insight into his produce. He is a butcher by trade, so he is passionate about Meat Standards Australia quality.
He even supplies his branded beef, Top Shelf Angus, to Trunk’s Gourmet Meats in Singleton, which supplies high-end restaurants. “It allows me to inspect the bodies each week and make breeding or feeding adjustments,” he said.
The stud has three foundation cows which are flushed – Texas Angus stud X46, X205 and Z171. Texas X46 has given more than 500 eggs across both the Angus and Ultra Black breeds. Texas X205 is an outstanding cow weighing more than 800 kilograms, and produces excellent offspring including semen sire sons and now grandson H220 is leading the way at Texas. Six of her sons will be available at the open day.
Stud favourite Texas Z171 has sold $280,000 worth of genetics. These females are combined with a number of proven handpicked Texas stud cows and a special flush cow Booramooka Voalition C11 to complete Top Shelf’s female breeding herd.
Top Shelf is producing quality and consistency, with extensive embryo and artificial insemination work.
On day six of Northern Beef Week, there will be 20 rising two-year-old bulls available for sale.
