Top quality Red Angus and Simmental genetics will be on show and for sale in the 2018 Fairfax Agricultural Media Red Angus and Simmental National Show and Sale at Dubbo on June 19 and 20.
Some of the country’s top studs are among those exhibiting, with 24 Red Angus studs and 17 Simmental studs coming from three states – NSW, Victoria and South Australia – for the second combined event.
On offer in this year’s sale, which will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus, are 51 senior bulls, 45 junior bulls, 14 senior females, 30 junior females, and 29 genetic lots, including 18 semen packages and 11 embryo packages.
Sale committee chairman Lyal Llewellyn, Jillangolo Red Angus, Keith, SA, said the first combined sale held last year was a great success, attracting stud and commercial buyers from NSW, Vic, SA, Queensland and Tasmania.
In the Red Angus sale the bulls topped at $21,000 and averaged $8038, and females reached a high of $7500, averaging $5400.

The Simmental bulls sold to a top of $12,000 twice to average $8455 and the females topped at $11,500 and averaged $7563.
In last year’s Red Angus judging the Powe family, Goondoola, Cargo, had the junior and grand champion bull with 20-month-old Goondoola Latitude L25, and the junior and grand champion female was Hobbs Livestock’s Dina’s Heartbreaker.
In the Simmentals, the senior and grand champion bull was Hobbs Livestock Captain Morgan L8 and the senior and grand champion Simmental female was Hobbs Livestock The Captains Girl L2.
“It was a very successful sale, and everyone was pleased with the averages, as you can see by the numbers in this year’s sale,” Mr Llewellyn said.
“This is the biggest catalogue we’ve had and we have several new vendors, including people who have bought through this sale in past years.”
Having such a big sale gives buyers the opportunity to select from a large range of cattle, bred with imported and domestic genetics.
“There are some top quality bulls and females, from royal show champions down to good quality commercial bulls,” Mr Llewellyn said.
The two-day event begins with the female show at 2pm on Tuesday, June 19, and the sale of genetic lots at the dinner that night.
Bull judging begins at 8am on Wednesday, June 20, with the sale of bulls and females beginning at 1pm.
Fairfax to livestream bull, female judging
Fairfax Agricultural Media has come on board as the major sponsor for this year’s Red Angus and Simmental National Show and Sale at Dubbo, and will be livestreaming the show to a wider audience at www.theland.com.au, as well as on both breed society Facebook pages, national livestock representative Kirra Kelly said.
“We pride ourselves on producing a quality visual and audio experience for the viewers,” Mrs Kelly said.
“By embedding the livestream onto The Land website we capture the interest of our large online audience and make the event accessible to anybody.
“The limitation with just streaming to Facebook is that you need to have a Facebook account and log in to view the content, which can limit your audience, but we are all about expanding the audience.
“Our livestreams also have a free rewind and rewatch facility, allowing those who come in late to catch up, or completely rewatch the event.”
