Milling museum
A MUSEUM dedicated to recording Australia’s milling history will open in Bathurst, NSW.
The Australian Milling Museum is calling for those with milling artefacts to get in touch to create an exhibit that brings the industry’s history to life.
Researcher Jess Jennings is analysing the history of milling in Australia and has found there were over 700 grain mills in NSW alone.
“The fact that so many mills existed across NSW alone, and other states which are better documented, gives us cause to believe that a lot of old grain milling equipment must still be out in paddocks and fields all over the countryside,” Dr Jennings said.
Argentine unrest
GRAIN logistics could be impacted in Argentina should truck drivers in the South American nation embark on industrial action.
The union for truck drivers in Argentina has threatened a strike unless demands for a 27 per cent wage increase are met.
The Argentine threat comes after transport workers in Brazil went on a strike that wreaked havoc with grain movements in May.
New Russian port terminal
WIRE reports have said United Grain and trade house RIF have signed an agreement to build a sea grain terminal in the port of Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea in Russia.
The terminal will have capacity to move up to 12.5 million tonnes of grain per year.
Soybean recovery
ARGENTINE soybean production is expected to bounce back from the drought impacted 2017-18 season according to US Department of Agriculture forecasting.
The USDA expects Argentinean soybean tonnages to rise after a 30pc year on year drop in 17-18 due to the drought.
It has Argentine exports at 7.3 million tonnes, up from 3.5m tonnes last year.
