IT may have taken 18 years but the Holcombe family of Burren Junction were exhilarated with their broad ribbon win at the 57th Dubbo Poll Hereford National last week.
And to top-off their 2018 success, their senior champion, Rayleigh Magnum M9, by The Ranch Marksman H14, sold for $16,000 to Merrignee stud and commercial enterprise of Charlie, Pip and Jono Merriman and family of Boorowa.
Mr Merriman said he had narrowed down to selecting three bulls but decided to stick with Magnum.
“He’s a big strong beautifully made bull with lots of fleshing for our southern area,” he said. Magnum will become leading sire among the stud and commercial herd.”
Jeff Holcombe said Magnum enjoyed championship fame at Wee Waa show and Inverell Northern Region Junior Heifer Show in 2017 and was placed seventh in the 20-24 months class at Sydney Royal this year.
Rayleigh’s three bulls topped at $20,000 and averaged $14,333, the best ever result at Dubbo.
Third-placegetter in senior classes, Rayleigh Monument M50, by Mountain Valley Karabar K203, was purchased for $20,000 by Oliver and Chelsea Jeffery for their 40-breeder Eathorpe stud herd, Armidale, which was established in 2006.
Established in 1957 on Lomani, Bahreenah and Dalkeith female and sire bloodlines, Rayleigh stud is now operated by Jeff and Robyn Holcombe with their two daughters, Sarah and Anna.
