LACHIE Scurr was nine years old when his father, Greg, gave him his first heifer to start up his Lachdale stud 12 years ago.

Last week at his Dubbo Poll Hereford National debut, 21-year-old Lachie exhibited a grandson of that heifer which took out the junior and grand championship honours.

Greg Scurr was keen for his son to get involved in the family-run beef cattle breeding enterprise, so gave Lachie his first heifer from Greg’s Tahlan stud, Tahlan Matchless B32, by Wirranya Hansard. She produced Lachdale Matchless E01 when joined to Evesham Bomber B52.

Lachdale Mindblower M003 was sired by Kidman Outlook F54, one of several bulls which featured well in the multi-vendor sale holding Kidman blood.

The 974 kilogram bull with an eye muscle area of 134 square centimetres caught the eye of the Dubbo sale fixture regulars, Malcolm and Denise Leader, who paid $10,000 for Mindblower to be used in their Ringwood Poll Hereford commercial herd at Binnaway where they join Poll Herefords and Angus to produce well sought-after black baldies at Dubbo saleyards.

Lachie Scurr said his stud goes back to Bobanken bloodlines with Mountain Valley and Kidman additions and Mindblower had won the 18-19 months class at Sydney Royal this year.

He now runs 15 stud breeders with his dad’s stud and his family’s 500 breeder commercial cattle enterprise at Texas, Queensland.
