Western Local Land Services is looking forward to a number of positive outcomes emerging in the Euabalong area following the completion of a fencing and weed management project.
The works, which were carried out under the Healthy and Diverse Waterways and Wetlands program, were recently completed with a final inspection carried out at the end of May.
The works were carried out on “Booberoi Station”, a 22,000 hectare (ha) property owned by Dennis Stewart.
Mr Stewart put in an application to carry out 20 km of riparian fencing which would protect 27 km of stream bank over an area of 740 ha.
In addition to this, a total of 7,025 ha of the property was also managed for African boxthorn.
Mr Stewart believes the fencing and weed management will result in positive outcomes for the environment and for his enterprise.
“Now that the works are complete we are expecting to see the benefits straight away,” Mr Stewart said.
“The work that has been carried out is a great way of preserving the area around the river.
“It will also help us control the grazing pressure. Kangaroos and goats are the main problem and we are planning to do further projects of our own to extend the fencing.”
Through the Healthy and Diverse Waterways and Wetlands funding program, eight applications were successful with all projects to be completed prior to 30 June 2018.
Mr Stewart encouraged all landholders to be on the lookout for opportunities with Western Local Land Services.
“The staff were very helpful in getting this project up and running and assisting us with our application. We are hopeful of being involved with Local Land Services and other agencies on more projects in future,” he said.
