Twynam Agricultural Group dispersed their Angus stud on June 14, following many years of breeding high performance, structurally sound cattle.
Established in the early 1980s by founder, John Kahlbetzer, the stud was created to produce quality Angus cattle to run on the group’s extensive properties and meet the company’s requirements. “We aimed to breed animals with longevity that will perform in the feedlot,” Mr Kahlbetzer said.
Livestock manager, Luke Gleeson, Jemalong Station, Forbes, said the aim at Twynam was always to breed well grown, high quality, structurally sound Angus cattle.
“We now offer these high performing cattle to you,” Mr Gleeson said.
“Many of the cattle presented were in the top 10 per cent of the breed for more than one trait.
“The balanced traits of the cattle demonstrate the commitment of Twynam to bred good functional cattle that will perform without compromising on EBVs (estimated breeding values).”
Offering a total of 408 animals, the sale finished on a high with 389 head sold for a 95 per cent clearance and a $2351 average.
A total of 133 pregnancy tested in calf (PTIC) cows sold to a top of $5400, a 96pc clearance and $2371 average.
The high selling cow was Twynam J162 purchased by Palgrove Pastoral Company for $5400.
Sired by The Glen Cavalier F055 from Twynam F117, the rising five-year-old was PTIC to calve in late September to the artificial insemination (AI) sire, GAR Fail Safe.
Rising two-year-old PTIC females reached a $2500 top for Twynam M013, purchased by Paringa Livestock Pty, Yea, Victoria, online through AuctionsPlus.
Also PTIC’d to the GAR Fail Safe sire, the M013 female was by home bred sire,Twynam H035, from Twynam E126 and was in the top 1pc for eye muscle area (EMA) on Breedplan.
Sixty-one unjoined 2017-drop females reached a $3200 high, clearing 100 pc.
Also purchased by Paringa Livestock Pty, Yea, Vic, through AuctionsPlus was Twynam N165, by Twynam J019 from Twynam K026, the young heifer who topped the 2017 drop.
Seventy-seven bulls sold to clear 85pc, average $3817.
Purchasing both the top-priced and second top-priced bulls of the sale was TE., J. and NT. Ireland. The top-priced bull was Twynam M159, a 22-month-old bull by Twynam H121 from Twynam H040, secured for $10,500.
Close behind him, selling for $10,000 was Twynam M124, a 23-month-old son of Twynam F53 from Twynam G003.
Four of the five stud sires offered sold to a $8000 top and $4500 average. Twynam L140, by Twynam H121 from Twynam J200, was the top-priced stud sire who was purchased by Mark Findlay.
The top-priced yearling bull was 11-month-old Twynam N037, sired by VAR Generation 2100 from Twynam D156, purchased by Avalon West Angus for $5400.
A total of 57 lots were secured by online bidders from Queensland, NSW and Vic, through AuctionsPlus.
Founder Mr Kahlbetzer said the sale was successful, finishing up on a bright note with high spirits.
The sale was conducted by Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon and Company, Forbes, and Glasser Total Sales Management, Victoria, with Luke Whitty and Lincoln McKinlay as the auctioneers.
