ENTRIES are open for the 2019 Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial, and organisers are expecting good numbers following almost a decade of benchmarking for producers.
The trial, now in its 10th year, evaluates the performance of teams of five steers across feedlot entry specifications, feedlot performance, carcase yield and quality, and the ability to meet market specifications.
A total of 3285 animals, representing 657 teams, have participated in the trial over the past nine years, with the trial has become a valuable tool for beef producers wanting to analyse their commercial operations.
The specifications for the trial are milk tooth steers from 320 to 460 kilograms, with a maximum of 50 per cent Bos Indicus content,
Entries are now open through to Friday, July 13, with cattle to be delivered to Teys Australia’s Jindalee feedlot, Stockinbingal, on Wednesday, August 29.
Free transport is available from centrally located saleyards across NSW and Victoria through sponsors Shanahan’s Livestock Transport, Wodonga.
Trial coordinator Brett Tindal, Wagga Wagga, said he expected between 400 to 500 head again this year and interest from new vendors had already been strong, especially from people who have been following the progress of the trial over the past nine years.
“We have received inquiry from a few of the placegetters from the Beef 2018 national carcase competition who are looking to enter our trial this year,” Mr Tindal said.
