AN outstanding display of the Shorthorn breed more than impressed Poll Hereford and Angus stud breeder, Stephen Peake, at the 59th Dectomax Shorthorn National show and sale at Dubbo showground last week.
The Bowen Poll Hereford and Peakes Angus studmaster from Barraba, said the top five bulls in each of the 12 classes totalling 124 head were standouts.
“They were really top-class and would be appreciated by any cattleman here today,” Mr Peake said.
Among the high calibre exhibits representing 36 studs from three states, were both 2018 Sydney Royal Show junior champion and the senior, grand and best exhibit.
Neither were missed by Mr Peake in his adjudication with the Sydney junior, Tarraganda GG Megabyte M11 (P) (AI), taking out the second youngest class and Division One championship.
Exhibited by David and Christine Morris and sons, Tarraganda stud, Young, Megabyte is one of the first two sons of the $57,000 The Grove Gigabytes J0837 (P) (now owned by Sprys Shorthorns) to be offered at a Dubbo National and stands among the top performance bulls in estimated breeding values.
But it was Sydney’s best exhibit, Nagol Park XLT M104 (P), by Nagol Park Aladdin Exult E074, that most impressed the judge to win Division Four and grand champion honours.
This standout, according to Mr Peake, was exhibited by Roger and Niaomi Evans, Nagol Park stud, Tamworth, who won The Land and Macquarie Williams Trophy.
Royalla Tremain M260 (P), was Division Three champion and much admired by Mr Peake who said that the grand champion won over this bull by his “extra rib of length”.
Tremain, high in IMF breeding values, was exhibited by Neilson, Sue and Nic Job, Royalla stud, Yeoval, and sired by the $19,000 Futurity Fully Loaded F109.
Bayview Abraham M108, shown by the Thompson family, Bayview stud, Yorktown, South Australia, was awarded Division Two champion ribbon and is the first son of $30,000 Bayview Unique now owned by Malton and Spencer studs.
Junior Division 1 reserve champion Leeds Gold Rush N2 (P) was exhibited by Gillian Leeds, Jerilderie, while Division 2 reserve ribbon went to Eselar Park RR Mysterious M192 (P) shown by Scott Ridley Partners, Condobolin.
Seniors Division 3 reserve award was won by Kamilaroi Mulyan (P) shown by Calrossy Anglican School, Tamworth, while Division 4 reserve went to Bayview Unique M18 (P) shown by the Thompson family.
Breeders’ group of three bulls was won by Bayview stud with Calrossy’s Kamilaroi stud placed second and Nagol Park third.
