It was a big day out for Gre Gre North’s Oakbank Merino and Poll Merino stud, who took out supreme exhibit at the 67th annual Hay Sheep Show, held at the Hay Showgrounds, NSW, last weekend.
The show attracted many of the best stud and commercial Merino sheep from the south of the country, and Oakbank’s Warren McRae said he was delighted to take out the top honour.
The rising two year-old polled ram came from the medium wool section, and took out supreme after being awarded champion ram.
Mr McRae said the ram stood out to him because of his structure, quality and soft white wool.
The ram will be shown at the upcoming Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo, but Mr McRae said he won’t be offered for sale.
“If people are interested, we’ll be selling semen, but we’ll be keeping him in the flock because he’s the sort of ram you don’t come across often,” he said.
Oakbank also took out champion and reserve medium wool ewe, reserve champion medium wool ram, and some group ribbons.
