Perhaps indicative of the current seasonal outlook, quality cattle in forward store condition were in demand from restockers at the Wodonga cattle sale held on Thursday when 2710 head were yarded.
With reasonable falls in the eastern Riverina and north-east of Victoria, there has been sufficient growth of pasture to excite some interest from producers in purchasing stock to carry forward into the spring, while feedlot interests are keen to maintain turnover and were operating on the heavier end of the offering.
The majority of the yarding were in very good condition and consisted predominately of black cattle along with some Herefords and European breeds.
A feature was the offering of PTIC Angus cows, second, third and fourth calver’s from Barraba, while another vendor, also from Barraba had a run of Angus steer and heifer weaners for sale.
Auctioneer, Gerard Unthank, BUR Wodonga told the gallery the cattle were not returning to northern NSW “because there is no feed up there.”
