TWO top-priced females of the 2018 Fairfax Media Livestock Simmental National are destined to continue showing while bolstering embryo programs for Hunter Valley breeder, George Wragge of Tullayr Simmentals, Scone.
His purchases totalling $44,000 were among 16 females and 14 bulls selling at Dubbo showground last week to four states.
Fourteen of 19 bulls effecting a 74 per cent auction clearance topped at $24,000 to average $8000 while 16 of 23 females (70pc clearance) topped at $28,000 and averaged $9406.
Five senior bulls topped at $9000 to average $5800 while 12 junior bulls averaged $9222. Five senior females averaged $10,200 and 13 juniors topped at $25,000 to average $9045.
Mr Wragge’s top buy at $28,000 was the reserve senior champion Savannah Zoe M04 (full sister to last year’s top-priced female) by DCR Mr Moon Shine X102 and from Lancaster Blanche G114, with a heifer calf at foot by Wheatland Kill Switch 598C.
The mother and daughter were bred by Vaughan and Sarah Campagnolo, Savannah stud, Oaklands Park, South Australia.
“Her pedigree and breeding is as good as it comes,” Mr Wragge said. “She will go into our embryo program to breed red bulls for the Queensland market.”
His second buy at $16,000 was the reserve junior champion Woonalllee Rosy N131 by Sibelle Dirty Harry 25Z and from Woonallee Rosy J56, one of five Woonallee females sold by Tom and Lizzy Baker, Woonalllee stud, Millicent, SA, for a $15,200 average.
Mr Wragge said Rosy was a “beautifully soft traditional female”. “She has a huge amount of capacity, is polled and well pigmented and will also be utilised extensively in our embryo program and both females will be shown at Brisbane Royal,” he said.
Second top money at $25,000 was paid by the Geddes family, “Doonside”, Jardine, North Queensland, for the junior champion Woonallee Dreamlady N173 sired by MRL Capone 130B and from Woonallee Dreamlady J289, and is the first of the Capone females to sell.
The Geddes also paid $6000 for Savannah Clover N12, first prize eight to 12 months for the Campagnolo family.
At $16,000, Woonallee Kathie N117 sold to the Scudds family, Millicent, SA, while Lavarta Simmentals, Captains Mountain, Qld, paid $10,000 for the third prize Woonallee Olivia N110.
Senior champion, Woonallee Hummer M227 was bought at $9000 by the Boon family, Strathalbyn, SA.
Reserve junior $24,000 at Dubbo
Reserve junior champion bull of the Simmental Dubbo National, Woonallee Night Rider N84, sold at $24,000.
He was one of two bulls sold for Tom and Lizzy Baker, Woonallee stud, Millicent, South Australia, to average $18,000 and was purchased by Springside Simmentals, Pittsworth, Queensland.
Sired by LFE The Riddler and from Woonallee Erica K71 the 15 month-old weighed 710 kilograms and had stood second in his class to the junior champion.
The Baker’s other sale at $12,000 was the unplaced Woonallee National N6, by MRL Discovery 21A, bought by David and Helen Menzies of Uralla.
Junior champion, Settler Noteable, by Woonallee Harry, exhibited by Richard Wilkinson, Settler stud, Bringelly, sold at $11,000 to a Roma buyer through AuctionsPlus. this bull weighed 718kg at 15 months.
Senior champion bull, Round-Em-Up Top Cut Black Opal, weighing 1122kg at 25 months and bred by David Hobbs, Round-Em-Up stud, Molong, sold at $9000 to Robert and Maria Parkins, Gulgong.
Reserve senior bull Loaderry Murphy, bred by Luke Adams, Loaderry stud, Londonderry, sold at $8000.
