Well over 100 people, the majority being landholders, have attended one of the four livestock nutrition in dry times workshops that were held in the Western region last week.
The workshops, which were coordinated by Western Local Land Services with support from Sheep Connect NSW, were held in Mossgiel, Anabranch, Tilpa and Packsaddle with Geoff Duddy from Sheep Solutions presenting at all four.
The main focus of the workshops were basic nutrition principles, interpreting feed test results, feed requirements of different classes of livestock, feeding grains and alternate feeds, early weaning and health issues.
Western Local Land Services Team Leader – Agriculture, Gemma Turnbull was pleased to see a strong turnout at all four workshops.
“We acknowledge that landholders have been feeding for a considerable period of time, however with reduced availability to fodder many are now forced to re-evaluate their feeding regime,” Ms Turnbull said.
“It was encouraging to see so many were able to find the time to attend these sessions as we know how time poor everyone is at present.
“The feedback from the majority of people has been that the sessions were very informative and the information learned will be beneficial in dealing with the tough seasonal conditions.”
